Apology

Dear readers, I feel like I owe you a giant apology.  I haven't been on here lately to vent, to describe feelings, or even to document what's going on in my home.  I'm also apologizing to myself, because this blog is a great way to describe memories and keep them around forever.  So, here's a little update on us.

We're busy!  Kyle has been busy teaching, getting grades in, and pulling a few 12 hour days to get in all his Parent/Teacher Conferences.  He's enjoying his grad class this semester, although it's one more thing on his busy agenda.  These kids are blessed with a Daddy who longs for nothing more but spending time with them.  Sometimes he asks me to get them out of bed before  he leaves in the morning for work, just so he can see their dear little faces before beginning his day.

Joel is still loving Pre-School and often shares random statements like, "Momma, did you know that Momma has three M's in it??" or "Momma, did you know that tomorrow starts with the letter T?"  He loves learning and it's been amazing watching him grow.  I swear the kid gets sweeter and cuter everyday.  He loves to please, is always eager to help, and keeps Kyle and I laughing.



Zoe is so my guts.  I've been hesitant to admit it, but it's oh so true.  When she's happy - she's so very, very happy.  And when she's not - watch out!  She spent a few weeks with some teething torture and has been much more smiley lately.  She's become a very independent lady who wants to do all things on her own.  We are still having spit-up issues and she goes in (finally) to see a Pediatric GI Specialist in December.



The two of them have been playing SO beautifully together.  Yesterday, they literally spent an hour playing with a quilt.  For real.  Joel was pulling it up, hiding underneath, Zoe laughing her head off.  Every time the two of them share a moment like this, Kyle will sarcastically (his best form of communication) say, "You just wait until she gets older, they're gonna fight all the time," mocking the warnings we received from people while we added to our family...

Anyway, there's a little explanation to our busyness and an update on where we are...  I promise I will try to blog more often!!

Table for Six

My Tattoos...

I wanted to give some background and explanation on my little pieces of art.  I got my first “tat” (Is it still cool to call them that?) when I was only 18.  I actually got my nose pierced on my legal birthday, and then just a month later I was ready to rebel some more.  Ah, youth…   Truth be told, if I could go back in time and never start this little body modification hobby, I would.  Once I hit my mid-20’s, I realized some of my tattoos had no significant meaning.  In the very least, they didn’t reflect the most important aspect of my life – my relationship with Jesus.   Thus starting my quest to spiritualize what I was working with.  And I can finally say I am very happy with what I have on my body right now.  I would still love a memorial tattoo for my Gabey, but every time I try to decide what to get, nothing ever seems good enough to capture his memory.  So, here’s a tour… My first tattoo is actually the only one you won’t see a picture of.  It’s a Chinese character.  On

Horrible, Thanks for Asking

Almost ten years ago, I delivered the baby boy who would die in my arms just two hours later.  But we had months to prepare for this reality.  His fatal diagnosis had come sixteen weeks before.  So there was no baby shower.  No celebration of the life about to begin.  We didn't have a nursery full of items we’d have to return with a sorrowful explanation.   That hasn’t been the case for my best friend. Two months ago today, I sat by her side as she tearfully and reluctantly pushed her baby girl into this world.   Silence.   Just the sounds of our gasps at the beauty of her perfect face.   There she was.   The miracle baby no one thought would come.  The one we were all so looking forward to meeting.    In absolute perfect form, but already gone.   It was surreal, like there was no way this was actually happening.   Not again.  Not to my Laura.   It was somehow holy, the thick presence of death also brought the sure presence of God.   It was beautiful, because here sh
